Terry Brace 1944 - 2013

Submitted by Tim Robinson on Wednesday, 10 July 2013

The club was very sad to hear about the death of Terry Brace, one of its first players and key founder and who went on to perform many roles in the development of our club. Former RCA forward, Joe Dixon, a good friend of Terry, writes:

"Terry was one of the very few players, and the only committee man, to have played in the first ever seasons of both Ryhope YC Juniors (1962/63) and Ryhope YC Seniors (1963/64) which later became Ryhope CA and finally Sunderland RCA.

"Although his playing career was short with the senior side he then went on to give incredible service to the club, until 1990. A member of the committee in all these years his roles included Trainer/Physio, Treasurer and finally Chairman. It should also be remembered that, as an electrician, he gave his services free to help in the building of the club's Meadow Park ground. He was very proud, and rightly so, to have helped in forming the RCA team, back in 1963, as well as playing a huge part in the club's success and development to Northern League status."
