View from the cemetery - November 2013

It all seems very chipper over the fence at present, happy smiling faces all round. Results not quite as good as performances seems to be the general view; often the mistaken view of those in trouble, but let us assume not in this case. A lot of young boys around, not much need for razor blades as far as I can see, and you do fear for some of them when they come up against the more basic wily old campaigners in this league, but they have to learn; and it looks like they can run fast, which can be very handy when things get feisty. I think it will all be fine....

And a good atmosphere off the pitch, crowds up a bit as far as I can see, and plenty of supplies being brought in, so the diner must be selling well. Bit of a pie crisis the other week I hear, but resolved in time, with the usual shouting and panicking of course, but they got there eventually. So all good at the moment, but a long way to go.

And what of the wider football scene? Well, another international weekend coming up, so a chance for our little games to pull a few new punters in, let's hope for some decent weather. And the usual worries over the England team, not enough natives in the Premier League, crowded out by the foreigners, so not enough young players coming through for Mr Woy. Not sure myself, quality not quantity is the answer I reckon, and at least if they make it now they should be decent, which is what we need for the great Brazilian adventure next summer. No doubt England will disappoint no young stars or not, but even so, wall to wall football every night, have to get a new telly in for us stationary lads....
