Well, real frustration now as no games again for the forseeable future!
The first team game at Bishop Auckland really had little chance and we all hold our breath for a possible run out at South Shields on 27 December with a 1.00 pm kick off. The lads can get it out of their systems when they travel to Newcastle tonight for the Christmas Party.
Had a chat with Fergy and the Sunday tie gets reversed after two postponements. His lads now have a trip to Liverpool to look forward to on 9 January 2011 in the FA Sunday Cup. Happy new year indeed. Mind what would be the betting that the tie gets called off twice, then back to Meadow Park on 23 January! The weather forecasters have been accurate to date and they predict another month of this.
It's the Football ICE AGE. Defty used to play in this with a yellow iced ball in the 1960s for Spenny. He must be soft nowdays!
May as well take the first opportunity to thank all involved for their efforts in 2010. Sponsors, supporters, players, families and the smallest but hardest working committee in football. I am awarding the Best Effort Award 2010 to 'Sgon' - John Anderson - whose efforts behind the scenes are quite unbelievable - hope Santa has arranged for more new tools and a new big grass cutter.
Mind he is not in the running for "Smiler" of the year 2010! "Get Off my Lawn!"
2010 will be remembered as a good one - the players, first team management and coaches really did the business! Well done. Great stuff. Still in two cups going into 2011. What is going on boys?
The Sunday side winning two cups: well done to all the players and management. Moany, Ray, Fergy et al, et al!
Last, but not least, I have got to mention Mrs Wilson, wife of Colin who co-ordinates the RCA project well and moves us forward. She remains our key player.
Colin is apparently on a trip as we speak (as instructed by Mrs Wilson) exploring undersoil heating! Wonder where he might be checking it out. Now that would be a first at Meadow Park.
So all the best to everyone. We have beaten all the odds in the past and we will get by these cold and bleak times. Chins up, raise a glass and cheer as George Herd says. These are Great Times! How lucky we all are: full bellies and we cannot complain. George used to fill his belly before big SAFC and international games - cos there might be nee scran after! How did the wee man float round the Roker Park pitch - a butterfly with a bite.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to us All!
Hope to see you all at Meadow Park on the 8 January 2011.
The Chairman
