Player profile: Sam Lilley

Submitted by Mark Cowan on Saturday, 13 April 2019

1 - Nickname - Sam or me and Dom [Moan] get called the Chuckle Brothers, not sure why the lads think we aren’t the brightest.

2 - Position - Centre half, right back or the bench.

3 - Previous Clubs - Middlesbrough and Scunthorpe.

4 - Best moment in football - Playing in the same team as my Dom [Moan].

5 - Best goal scored - Only ever scored one so it’s got to be that one. 35 yard volley from the edge of the 18 yard box! Probably one of the best headers you’ll ever see.

6 - Best player you’ve played with and against - Best player I’ve played with by a country mile is Dom [Moan], great player. Against, is probably Dom and only ever played against him in training when he asked me to let him score.

7 - Best and worst in training - Best is Dom Moan. Always gives a full 40%. Worst has got be Swaz for obvious reasons. Nobody wants to be on his side in training as he’s that bad, not sure I can put into words how bad he is.

8 - Best and worst craic - Best is Dom. Me and my Dom are always debating Brexit, politics, the environment - don’t get me started on the damaging effects plastic is having on the environment - real important stuff that the other lads don’t really understand and I’ve also just found out that a ‘joiner’ is someone who joins pipes together. Worst has got to be Swaz, tries to be funny when he’s clearly not.

9 - Best and worst dressed - Best is Dom. Proper stylish and is always smart, like a model, straight out the catalogue or the catwalk. Worst is Swaz. Doesn’t realise he’s nearly 60 and tries to copy off me and Dom with his dress sense. He’s now started wearing ‘Gordon McQueens’ which look like a size 3 and jeans with a turn-up, just looks stupid.

10 - Favourite player at RCA - Easy, Dom Moan. Great player, great lad and my cousin. Can play in a few different positions, is quick, strong and has an eye for goal. The complete player in my eyes.

Aaron Croft profile

Submitted by Mark Cowan on Saturday, 23 March 2019

1 - Nickname - “Crofty”

2 - Position - Central midfield

3 - Previous Clubs - Seaham Red Star, Jarrow Roofing, Chester-le-Street, Easington, Hebburn and Washington.

4 - Best moment in football - Winning the All England Cup at Ewood Park and scoring a bullet.

5 - Best goal scored - Don’t score many cos I like to give the other lads a chance, but I’d say either my goal at Ewood in the final or playing for Hebburn against Newcastle Benfield, taking on four players and slotting it bottom corner.

6 - Best player you’ve played with and against - Best player played with Ryan Donaldson and best player played against Julio Arca.

7 - Best and worst in training - Would have been Pocks cos he was never there, but worst has to be Swaz when he joins in. Kills which ever team he is on and doesn’t move out of a 10x10 area. Best trainer has to be Swanna! Standard 10/10 winning attitude as he does in a game and puts a shift in.

8 - Best and worst craic - Best crack Ross or Spider - not Pagey! Worst craic definitely Tom Mac, quieter than me and always looks wiped out.

9 - Best and worst dressed - Haven’t had a night out with the lads yet so a tough one. Going off the little knowledge I have, Swaz worst dressed cos he dresses like he is 18 again. Best dressed will probably be me, but we will have to wait for the next night out.

10 - Favourite player at RCA - Swanna, played with him the most out of all the lads at Washington and Plains Farm, could definitely have played at a higher standard and a great lad! Nothing less than 100% in every game, nee wonder the lad’s more grey than Philly Schofield!

Mark's message

Submitted by Mark Cowan on Saturday, 23 March 2019

It‘s been a while since we did this, and for obvious reasons, not enough room in the programme to talk about everything. Focusing on the past eight or nine games, has seen us get back to some form. Seven wins out of nine isn’t bad going, considering who we’ve had to play. South Shields were never three goals better than us and we certainly were the better side against Hebburn, just unfortunate we didn’t get anything out of it. For me, injuries have played a crucial part in our season, key players missing a big part of the season, we get one player back and lose another! Saying that, however, the lads who have come in have took their chance and been fantastic, which is testament to the character we have throughout the whole squad. This group of lads, every single one of them, are an absolute pleasure to work with, show great desire, commitment and have a great sense of togetherness, which plays a big part in the club‘s success, and, if it we hadn’t had so many injuries, I have no doubt we would be top three going into today’s game against Newton Aycliffe. We played Newton Aycliffe a few weeks back and the character shown, battling right to the end, proves the lads really are in this together. Same against Whitley Bay and the same against Whickham on Tuesday night.

So what are our aims for the remainder of the season? Simple, we’ve got five games left and we want to win our remaining fixtures, and see where we finish. We did it last season, so there’s reason why we can’t emulate that and try and beat last seasons top four finish. I fully expect Newton Aycliffe to give us another tough game, like they did at their place, but if we stick together, show the same level of commitment, show our quality and desire, I’m sure we can come away with all three points.
