The Riley Report

Submitted by Colin Wilson on Friday, 10 September 2021

Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen.

I thought Saturday’s FA Cup game was another great game to be involved in, but unfortunately we came out on the wrong side this time.

Playing higher opposition in Stockton Town we knew it was going to be a difficult game.

I thought we started the game very well and they scored against the run of play, but we managed to get back level and the big moment for me in the game was Sparky hitting the crossbar just before half time.

Second half we tired quite a bit and allowed them to control the midfield, but having injuries to key players didn’t help as it meant we couldn’t change the game maybe how we wanted, but credit to Stockton for the win and I wish them the best of luck in the next round.

Today we are in the other FA competition and it is something I would like to do well in. But Redcar will come to the game with nothing to lose and we must be at our best to get through to the next round and stop them causing an upset.

With having quite few injuries and losing one or two players we have strengthened the playing staff with a couple of additions in Layton Watts and Josh Elcoate and I hope they look forward to helping us achieve success.

Thanks for your continued support.

Steve

The mention of Stockton Town and Layton Watts in the same article, brings to mind the rather sweet finish that the said Mr. Watts applied, to score what was to be the winning goal v Stockton last season. Also the two goals he set up down at Thornaby after coming on as sub in his first match for the club.
