Wembley bound FA Vase finalists South Shields visit Meadow Park this Thursday evening in our rearranged Northern League Division 1 match.
Amazingly, the Mariners are in action on four fronts. As well as the FA Vase final, they play Billingham Synthonia in the Durham County Challenge Cup and North Shields in the League Cup. And with North Shields leading the Northern League on 97 points from 38 games and South Shields second on 83 from 33 played they won't have given up on the quadruple. The league, though, looks a tough ask and it's our job to make it even harder.
When the South Shields team arrive, there's one opposition player who will certainly need no introduction to football fans from Sunderland. Julio Arca was signed by Peter Reid in July 2000 and he quickly established himself as a regular, save for injuries in his second season, and firm favourite.
After a second relegation season, Julio moved down the A19 to Middlesbrough in 2006, where he played until 2013, when he retired from league football.
Julio joined South Shields in 2015 and helped them to promotion scoring 12 goals.
Get yourselves down to Meadow Park. There'll be more than a bit of class on the grass.
