So, what's your opinion on Friday night games? A good addition to the entertainment options available to clubs, a chance to pull in a few punters who might not otherwise ever bother? Or a disgrace, letting down the sacred principle of 3:00 on a Saturday? Or does it depend why you are moving the fixture? I guess you pays your money and takes your choice, assuming both clubs can agree of course. I only ask because a little bird tells me, by shouting loudly while hunting for worms, that Spennymoor, or Evenwood Rovers as I like to call them, are somewhat miffed that the game at the Brewery Field this coming weekend isn't being moved to Friday night, in order to avoid a clash, or not quite a clash, with the Wear-Tyne derby being played on Saturday lunchtime. Should games be moved for this reason?
Doesn't seem to affect the punters much; if they are watching it on the old bandit telly then they will have time to do so and still get the to the big match when RCA are in town, and if they are die hard fans of the black and whites or red and whites, well it hardly matters then does it? They would be off to the game anyway. Or is it so that the players can watch the game, or attend? Well, who knows, but players are there to play, no? Anyway maybe the welcome, on and off the pitch, may be not quite as warm as usual. Doesn't bother me of course, nice quiet day in for me, but some might find their half time tea cold....
Anyway, back to the football on the pitch. Good effort against West I thought. Second best, but a good side those lads, and as it happens, still my tip for the top this season. And our former captain gets the first goal to add to it. We might have known. But real good lad Closey, so no hard feelings, or at least not much. At least he is guaranteed to get himself a pint or two afterwards, so somebody behind the bar will have been smiling, although I hear they were a little short handed, was someone missing without leave...
