Well, well, well, who would have believed it? Four games in and not beat yet, are we the Colliery in disguise, sneaking into the local league? Oh no, I don't think so, we are the Meadow Park boys, taking on the big names and getting results. Fair perked me up no end it has. But can it last? Will the cold chill of a Ryhope August Bank Holiday weekend bring it all to an end? Are the neighbours revolting? Will the council turf us out? Who is getting sent off this week? Has the Deft finally ordered enough beer and pies? These are the questions that keep me turning, in my cold place over the fence every night.
Still some good football on display so far, and plenty of goals to keep the crowd entertained. And what crowds! Even allowing for the fiddle, it looks like the tide has turned and washed a good few more down the bank to see what the fuss is all about, which must be good for the old coffers. Maybe some visionary had the sense to advertise? Won't get any credit for that, even if it works, which it has, or so he says.
So has Hicker cracked it this time, as opposed to just cracking somebody? Well, the new boys look strong for sure, the blend looks good and the chances are flowing in every game: 14 goals in four games and complaining about the ones we missed, good position to be in. Strong bench as well, not a couple of kids and the assistant manager making the numbers up. Or even turning out with 10 men, as happened not that many years ago, or so I am told. No, look like a decent team, with a bit of belief and good spirit. No doubt it will end in a crying match, it always does in Sunderland. I jest of course, I mean, just look at our big brothers over the water, get a comparatively good result against the mags, then they know they are good enough to go down South and win without picking a striker, aren't they? Oops!
So, back to the real football, onwards and upwards. Should we get our application for promotion in just in case? Wednesday night at Prescot Cables anybody? Anybody? Anybody?
