Another win in a cup tie, what is going on here? Six cup games, four wins; nine league games, no wins, what kind of crazy form is this? Or is it just the new gaffer showing his magic touch straight away? Undefeated, amazing. I'm no expert, and never was, as many will tell you, but from my limited view we look a bit more purposeful of late, a bit more direct, and a bit tougher in defence. Or maybe this is just wishful thinking, I hope not. A few new or former faces appearing again, and at least we have plenty of bodies, with a good few young ones amongst them. Youth is always the future, as old Adolf used to say.

No doubt we will find out more against West Auckland, a proper test if ever there was one, although overall we have a half decent record against them, usually achieved on their pitch admittedly, maybe ours doesn't have enough of a slope...

Meanwhile I see our big brothers over the river have finally managed a league win, beating us to it. Looks like they have a bit of purpose about them as well nowadays; pity, I enjoy the endless disasters followed by miraculous escapes, but maybe it is the good folk of Newcastle's turn to enjoy the delights of such a season. The Gallic strategy seems to have backfired somewhat this year, the new centre forward couldn't score in the proverbial Chinese house, good job the old one has limped back into action. But the manager clings on, he must have something good on the owner...
